About Roslyn .....

It is the texture and movement of Natural and Urban Environments that excites me to depict the energy I see and feel.

My desire is to draw out the essence of a subject, interpreting reality as I perceive it. I may use a photo as my guide or intuition, imagination & memory.

‘Alla prima’ is my favourite way of working – (an Italian phrase ‘at first attempt’). This process then involves making adjustments and resolving areas to unify the painting.

I delight in the process of painting as much as I do in having a finished artwork. My brush feels like an extension of my arm as it dances across the surface. In picking up brush, spray bottle or palette knife, I release my spirit to play and experiment – to have an adventure with the paint. The chosen colours move and blend before my eyes.

I experience the delight of manipulating what's happening in a way that creates a flower, stream, mountain, building; an abstract expression of the earth.

This is when my Quest for Excellence comes into the now.

Creative since childhood, Painting came into my life in 1998—first with Pastels, quickly followed by Watercolour—displaying, selling and winning prizes regularly throughout QLD and NSW.

In 2007, I began to teach the joys of Watercolour to others during 6-8 week courses and weekend workshops. The subjects were many and varied. The feedback came with participants often joining for several terms or years.

Solo exhibitions include my first in 2005: “Water, Flowers, People” – my favourite subjects; 2010: “19 Days, 19 Paintings” – after an Art Tour to the Greek Islands; 2015: “The Rock and The River” – focusing on the refreshment experienced in rainforests & nature; 2018: “Essence of Toowoomba” – a series of Iconic places within our beautiful city. And in 2020: “Art as a lifelong journey” – conceived as a Retrospective (portrayed in a Portfolio book of the same name), and incorporating aspects of experimenting on different surfaces.

And So the Journey continues …..

“I believe that art has a divine source and lives in the hearts of all men who have been touched by the heavenly light.

Once having tasted the delights of great art, one is inescapably and forever dedicated to it”

Paul Gauguin 1848-1903
